ARCHITECTURAL REFLECTIONS: THE ECLECTIC STYLE OF MARIO SANTINI

What makes quartzite different from other natural stones, in the case of architectonic use? Marble and granite in general are among the architectural materials that best valorise a design, in terms of shapes, colours and hues. Quartzite is by nature a rather hard material, used in similar ways to granite, yet featuring a thinner grain that makes it reminiscent of the pleasant effect of marble.

Can you tell us about one of the most astonishing ways quartzite is used in your projects? I have used backlit quartzite in bathrooms, achieving significant emotional effects.

How would you recommend using quartzite when the goal is sober and timeless décor? In my opinion, quartzite kitchen tops, when suitably treated and combined with wooden cabinets and steel appliances, ensure truly

# THE ARCHITECT MARIO SANTINI

With his design and architectural studio, Mario Santini Italian Life

Style, he is a point of reference for those in search of a distinctive style.

I opened my studio immediately after graduating. I have designed

more than 70 commercial activities in Verona and the area surrounding

the city. Over the years, I have travelled a lot, with the curiosity

of an explorer and the eye of a designer. This has allowed me to increase my knowledge and give

birth to a style, now known as the Santini style, which has even been the topic of a series of lectures in

the Faculty of Architecture in Parma, where it was defined as post-

classical . This style recovers the taste of the early twentieth century, with contaminations that date back to a period between the 1950s and

1970s, plus a few kitsch touches, which are a pivotal element as they raise a smile and prove that I never

take myself too seriously.
